6 Reasons Why I Will Never Stop Exploring Archetypes
There are some discoveries in life that you simply cannot unknow.
They don’t just shift your thinking - they shift you.
For me, archetypes are one of those discoveries. Once you understand them, you see the world with fresh eyes: your own choices, your family’s quirks, your colleagues’ motivations, even society’s struggles and triumphs.
Archetypes are like the DNA of human behaviour - simple enough for anyone to grasp, and yet profound enough to change everything.
Here are six reasons why I will never stop exploring them, and why I believe everyone would benefit from doing the same.
1. Archetypes Explain Why We Do What We Do
Most personality tests label you with traits. Archetypes go deeper - they reveal the drives behind the traits. They explain why your friend always takes charge, why your partner can’t rest until everyone’s okay, why your colleague loves data but resists intuition. These patterns are timeless, universal, and astonishingly accurate. Once you see them, you understand yourself - and others - like never before.
Archetypes provide a lens through which you make sense of the world.
2. They Make the Invisible Visible
Motivation is often dismissed as a “soft issue.” Archetypes, when assessed using the TEAM ME® method, make the subject tangible, measurable, and actionable. You can literally map which characters dominate your inner world and which ones you’ve neglected. That’s a superpower, because when life throws you a challenge, you can consciously “call up” the part of you best suited for the moment. Imagine knowing exactly when to bring out your Sovereign (the visionary leader) or your Sage (the wise analyst), or any of the six core types that bring their own unique approaches into any situation.
3. Archetypes Transform Relationships
Unfortunately, families often fight, teams clash, and societies fracture – not because they want different things, but because they have differences in approach. Your way may not be their way. So, conflicts frequently arise because people are talking from completely different archetypal perspectives - without realising it.
With a simple and clear model of the archetypes at play we can quickly decode these misunderstandings, find common ground and communicate far more effectively with others who initially seems to oppose us. Suddenly, instead of judging each other, we appreciate the unique contribution each person (and their dominant archetypes) bring to the situation. Lovers bring empathy. Warriors bring courage. Jesters bring levity and enjoyment. When we honour those roles, homes become calmer, workplaces more productive, and communities stronger.
4. They Help Us Grow the “Weaker” Parts of Ourselves
Most of us lean heavily on one or two archetypes, but neglect others. That creates imbalance - and limitation. By recognising which characters in our inner team are underdeveloped, we can deliberately strengthen them. This isn’t about changing who you are - it’s about becoming more fully yourself. Think of it like cross-training for the soul.
5. They Provide a Common Language for Humanity
Archetypes have been with us since the dawn of storytelling - from ancient myths to modern movies. Everyone, everywhere, recognises them. That makes archetypes a shared language across cultures, ages, and backgrounds. In a world divided by politics, religion, and ideology, archetypes remind us that underneath it all, we are profoundly the same: human beings with familiar inner characters navigating life together.
6. They’re the Key to a Better Future
At a time when stress, conflict, and disconnection are everywhere, archetypes offer a pathway to renewal. They empower individuals to lead with clarity, families to bond with empathy, and societies to collaborate with wisdom. When we understand archetypes, we don’t just play our best game in life - we help the world play its best game.
Final Word: This is really not Optional
Archetypes aren’t a quirky “extra.” They are a vital foundation of self-awareness, a compass for relationships, an engine of performance, and a powerful glue for society.
If we ignore them, we will stumble blindly on – constantly clashing with each other and hurting those we engage with. But if we explore these essential characters, we will unlock extraordinary clarity, power, and connection – leading to powerful collaboration and unprecedented performance.
This isn’t just interesting psychology - it’s an essential human toolkit.
So, if there’s one thing I want to leave you with, it’s this: understanding archetypes is not optional. It’s vital.
As you deal with whatever comes your way in the next few hours, I want to ask – who, exactly, are you bringing onto the pitch?
